Summer Sonnet

The sun is shining bright in the sky,
The sunflower is tying its knot,
Feels like there’s a fire in my eye,
Turns the land red-hot.
Brown is the leaf,
Golden is the sand,
Beach gives relief
When the body is tanned.
Summer rushes over the heels of Spring,
And the month of June comes with that reminder.
Holidays arrive and the excitement rings
When school breaks start becoming visible in the calendar.
Here comes the season of summer,
warm and dry and dusky and quiet.
