Woman’s love

T’was a cloudy day, I remember precisely,
Got to know you were soon about to meet me,
Tears made a place in my eyes as I got the news,
God has finally been kind to hear my plea that brews.

Emotions were on a somersault within,
Even insecurity now has a place to begin,
Would I be able to love enough?
Would I be able to endure if things get tough?

You were a surprise to my small world,
But now my soul is around you, curled,
How would it be to touch you for the first time?
Would it just be like how I manifested my chime?

The longing has finally come to an end,
After some hours that the universe had me lend,
Holding my love with tears continuously running,
Pecked his comely cheeks, as he is so stunning.

Never knew I can love a person this much,
Whom I never would want to leave my clutch,
I just can’t stop adoring his eyes,
I’m in love with someone that small in size.

Now my world is a people of two,
One who blessed my life, another whom I brought life to,
Can’t explain how it feels to be around them,
It looks like I am the woman in love with a gem.

  1. The title of your poem is very befitting, and equally elusive. To me, it portrayed the sense that this poem will bring forth the themes of a woman’s romantic longing for a man and then their reconciliation, which is only emphasized upon by the beginning few stanzas. The use of “cloudy day” in the first line marks the muddle of emotions the speaker is going through. Throughout the first stanza, the imagery between the speaker and that of a wife waiting for her husband to return home from a war is consistent. The next three stanzas help depict her unorganized emotions and her thoughts. Her worry, her concern, and also her eagerness. The seeds of doubt begin to arise from the third stanza, with the use of the words, “the first time”. The fourth stanza mentions of their union but we are still unaware of who exactly this “surprise” is. It is finally in the end of the second last stanza that the secret is unfurled, and the tone of the poem shifts entirely to the blessings of motherhood. We finally know that the speaker has had a baby boy, whom she loves with all her heart and already has her “soul around you, curled”. The poem now gleams under the shine of a whole new light, just like the speaker radiating the glow of motherhood, now that the turmoil of emotions inside her has come to a rest, leaving only ample love and fulfillment behind. It wasn’t a ‘wife waiting for her husband to return home from a war’ but a mother praying to God for safely bringing her child to life. Now, we perceive all her emotions, her insecurities, the inner questioning, her keenness, her anticipation, the rising storm of her emotions and finally the catharsis, the tears when she finally holds her child in her arms as to what they truly mean, her journey of becoming a great mother. The last stanza brings the man in the picture, “who blessed my life” and her child, “whom I brought life to” together, and illustrates her contentment with her family. The poem ends carrying a familial tone, where the speaker addresses herself as “the woman in love with a gem”, representing her “small world”.

  2. This heartfelt poem beautifully captures the emotions of anticipation, love, and motherhood. The opening stanza sets a poignant tone, conveying the tears of joy upon receiving the news of an impending meeting with a loved one. The poet’s vulnerability shines through as they express their insecurities about loving enough and enduring any challenges that may arise.

The arrival of the person they longed for brings a sense of surprise and fulfillment, as their soul becomes intertwined with theirs. The poem vividly portrays the anticipation of physical contact and the overwhelming love that overflows upon finally meeting. The poet’s affectionate gestures, like pecking their loved one’s cheek, reflect the depth of their adoration.

The focus then shifts to the profound love experienced as a mother. The poet expresses the incomparable love for their child, emphasizing the overwhelming joy and the desire to hold onto them forever. The poem beautifully encapsulates the transformative power of motherhood and the indescribable bond that forms between a parent and child.

Overall, this poem radiates with love, evoking a sense of tenderness and gratitude for the precious connections we form in life.
