Aurelia
Insecurities wrap you in a tight hold
Almost like a safety blanket
It feels so good until it doesn’t
And ultimately, there comes the regret.
For a time, unspent with loved ones,
For being rough around the edges,
For missed opportunities and unfinished business and
For misplaced pledges.
Oh! How you wish to defy nature,
Make your own path, fill in the gaps,
Soften the blows and adopt complexity,
All in the name of simplicity.
How unaware are we? Oblivious
To the nurture of the universe, showing us the way
Just like an Aurelia, so unpretentious.
How humble the being, trusting the process,
Going with the flow,
Quite literally so,
Basking in its authenticity.
The sheerest of allure as it possesses,
There are no lines, no symmetry;
Only the understanding of the most fundamental idea
That imperfection is the heart and soul of beauty.
Black, or white, or brown,
Gold, curves, or folds,
We must live in peace and tranquility
To increase our joy tenfold.
Alas, we reach a denouement,
Which, in all reality, is just a new dawn.
Embracing the smallest of victories,
Letting go of uncertainties, taking it day by day,
Will be our newest song.
This is such a well crafted poem with appropriate form and use of punctuation.
The imagery used is vivid and whimsical, with words used such as “Aurelia”, “Allure”, etc. It binds the poem together with a sense of relief and puts forward an ambiguity, while portraying the struggles of the mind.
The direct address to the read through use of exclamation makes the poem even more engaging, while the words bring a beautiful musical composition when one reads it.
I really loved how the poem fills one with a beautiful hope and brings together a strong emotion, through aesthetic storytelling.
