Nightingale

In moonlit realms where stars do gleam,
There sings a bird with voice supreme.
With melody that stirs the soul,
The nightingale, with tales untold.

Her feathered cloak of ebony,
A symphony in darkened key.
From hidden perch, she casts her spell,
A song that lures hearts to dwell.

Her notes, like whispers in the night,
Caress the air with pure delight.
A voice that echoes through the trees,
Bringing solace, a sweet release.

In lullabies, she weaves her art,
A balm for weary, troubled hearts.
Her serenade, a gentle balm,
Guiding spirits with tranquil calm.

Ode to the nightingale’s voice so rare,
A gift bestowed beyond compare.
Through darkest hours, her song will wend,
And touch the souls of all who lend.

Oh, nightingale, your song divine,
Transcends the realms of space and time.
In tender strains, your secrets lie,
A nocturnal hymn that fills the sky.

So let us bask in your sweet refrain,
As night descends, a celestial reign.
The nightingale, with voice so pure,
A poet’s muse, forever endure.

  1. This is a beautifully composed poem that definitely makes one rejoice in the melody of the nightingale. The piece of composition actually reminds me of the poem “The Frog and the Nightingale” by Vikram Seth, however, one that is without the morose ending. The muse that you have chosen, the Nightingale is actually very fascinating, since the bird is often compared to an innocence that we lose as we grow older. The Nightingale is also very ornamental in the sense that we often adore it solely for the beauty of its song and not for its life. The poem also reminds me of how we humans are fascinated with the idea of preserving and saving this ornamental beauty. The scene that the poet has set up for us to view the nightingale in its entire beauty is also very refreshing and the use of an aa-bb rhyme scheme has definitely added more to the poem and its exuberance. Lastly, the poet writes and details about the nightingale almost in a reverent manner, truly reflecting their heart and emotions.
