Are you still watching the moon
Are you still watching the moon?
Still shining, a beacon of hope
in the midst of the darkness that looms.
The enigma of memory, mysterious melody,
nothing but a calm lullaby. If every catastrophe could heal,
If all the bad omens were averted.
Could we strive to survive, this eerie stillness of the night?
The epitome of beauty and passion.
Flawed, sick, and pale with spots.
Then who am I, who are you?
Still admiring broken but beautiful.
The dreamy night is almost over, but
are you still watching the moon, Because I am, feeling times that fly.
For the moon reminds me to carry on,
Even when I feel I’ve lost you, my light.
The theme of a poem is the message an author wants to communicate through the piece. The thing about these self love poetry books is that there is a fine line where it starts to sound selfish and a bit narcissistic…the art of losing love but continuing love to yourself….just love it!
There is a sense of longing and nostalgia in this poem and is quite metaphorical in its sequence. As two people who have a connection sit and watch the moon retrospectively, this poem brings about an imagery of the kind. The first line hooks the reader by putting them in the position of the addressee. The moon is often a symbol of hope at a time when everything is one’s life is wrong, its light when the world within gets dark and its a constant when everything else is temporary. further, the moon is the beholder of everyone’s memories and that makes the reader associate their connotated dreams, hopes and memories to the moon; and thus, peace becomes an expressed signifier. The free verse of the poem allows the poet to express their emotions without constraint. However, the way the poem is written indicates a sense of unknowingness in the actions of the addressee. There is also the question of a potential confusion of the identity if the moon was to not be present and yet the beauty of it would not fade. Similarly, of the addressee, despite their absence, their beauty is every present. The way the poem is written intends to bring out nostalgic memories and reminiscent words to the reader.
